"You had one job. Get the cake" - Why I shouldn't be trusted to get the cake

Cakes are a symbol of sweetness and celebration. Any celebration calls for a cake and we never miss the chance of getting one, and of course, the beautiful message on it is what makes the tradition so special.

Life is too short to be serious. I’ve never been known to be serious. And I proved that one summer’s day when my newly graduated sister got her first full time job as a .…erm…. come back to me on that one. Either way, this called for a celebration. And what do we usually do when we celebrate? We get a cake.

Here’s a mini rant, why are job titles so hard to remember these days. Is it just me that feels like a grandmother who has no clue what these new tech roles are? Someone could tell me their job title and would probably have retired by the end of saying it. They just seem to get longer and more confusing every year.

Mum assigned me the task to get a cake with “Congratulations” on it to celebrate the big news, which she expected me to do so sensibly. Oh, how naïve you are mum. There I was looking at the display at the shop looking for just the right one and a nice white square cake with pink frosting on top and flowers seemed to be staring at me in the face. All that was missing was a sweet message on top. Leave that to me.

The woman serving me picked the cake out for me and asked me the question I’ve been waiting for, “Want a message on it?” and there I stood, grinning at her.

Let’s just say you should never trust me with the cake because I’ll always write something stupid on it just like I did on my sister’s one, which says “We don’t know what your new job is but congrats anyway.”

My sister judged me when she saw the cake but luckily, I got her almost 1000 likes on twitter so she’s welcome. Oh KJ, when will you be serious? The funny thing is it’s been four years and I still don’t know the job title.

I had one job. Get the cake.
